What you want, when you want, where you want

What does Distance Learning with CREST involve?

When you begin a distance learning course with CREST, you will become part of a team. You will work with your tutors (and fellow students) in a cycle of study, directed assignments, and feedback.

Study

When you enroll on the REST MSc programmes through distance learning we will send your introduction study pack. This includes the course study guide, your username and password. The study guide details how the programme works and what is expected of you. New students should undertake self-study of the Foundation Course materials that can be found on the CRESTDL website. These Foundation Course subjects are considered at a more advanced within the REST MSc and so link directly to the programme module resources contained on the university LEARN virtual learning environment. Additionally, the LEARN gateway gives you instant access to the latest course information, and allows you to communicate with your tutors and fellow students. So, CREST provides you with everything you require to get started.

Learning Resources

Your CRESTDL learning materials contains a range of resources including study notes, case studies and interactive software (below).

You will require the Adobe Acrobat reader to view these files. If this is not installed on your machine, please download the free Acrobat reader from the Adobe web site.

Assignments

As you work through the course, you will be required to complete assignments. An assignment is your response to questions which are posed to you at intervals throughout the module. These questions are based on the material you have studied up to this point. Assignments need to be submitted to CREST via LEARN on the Internet.

Feedback

Feeback is essential to the learning process and is therefore one of the main features of our distance learning programmes. Feedback enables you to progress effectively with your studies by answering two basic questions:

How am I doing?
How can I improve?

Feedback takes the form of constructive advice sent to you by your tutor when you have submitted each assignment. There are also opportunities for you to receive advice about areas of concern related to the subjects you are studying but not specifically related to your assignments. For rapid feedback, we encourage our distance learning students to use the LEARN Web gateway.
