Welcome to CREST

The Centre for Renewable Energy Systems Technology, School of Electronic, Electrical and Systems Engineering.

Our internationally-renowned MSc leads to the award of a Master of Science in Renewable Energy Systems Technology It examines the main renewable energy and sustainable low carbon technologies being developed to meet current and future energy needs. The course enables graduates to understand different renewable energy technologies and make informed decisions about their development and deployment.

The MSc is available as a 1-year full-time or 3-years (typically) part-time distance learning course. This website explains how distance learning enables participants to study from home or work without the need to give up their job. However, students can attend week long block taught modules if they like. Around 400 students from around the world are enjoying the flexibility of the REST MSc by distance learning. Prospective Students, click on the Quick Guide link to see an overview of CREST's flexible & distance learning MSc and Study with CRESTdl link, with details of how to apply. Further information can also be found at our frequently asked questions.

Renewable Energy Systems Technology by Distance Learning
The REST distance learning MSc is helping provide the highly qualified staff the renewable energy industry needs. By using the same course materials distance learning students are able to achieve the same outcomes as the full-time REST MSc. We have developed new ways of learning, including video lectures and online tutorials to meet the demand from people wanting this highly sought after qualification but cannot attend traditional university classes.

Applications are now open for the October 2013 course entry. The closing date for Applications is 19th August 2013.

In 2012/13 we introduced changes to the options from 2 out of 3 15 credit modules to 3 10 credit modules which include: Wind Power 2, Advanced Photovoltaics and Advanced Solar Thermal. A 10 credit Renewable Energy Storage module should be introduced for 2013/14.

New Students. Do not forget to check your student email for important starting information. See your study guide. You can access modules, including Foundation, by selecting the My Course link.

We are proud to say the MSc in Renewable Energy Systems Technology (full-time and distance learning) is an approved course of three premier professional Engineering Institutions The IMechE, IET and the Energy Institute as Further Learning Requirements of the Engineering Council's UK SPEC for Chartered Engineer status. This means that graduates who have already completed accredited 3-year undergraduate degrees can use satisfactory completion of the REST MSc as a direct route to Chartered Engineer status.
