CREST MSc Foundation Studies

This Foundation Studies package will provide you with the basic knowledge required to undertake CREST's MSc in Renewable Energy Systems Technology. For many of you, much of the course will comprise of revision. Please read the information below carefully before you begin.

• This is an open learning package, and you are encouraged to make use of the material as much as your time allows prior to the start of the MSc. The Foundation Studies package requires you to take responsibility for your own learning programme during the pre-MSc phase. However, be aware that some time will also be available at the start of the MSc course for Foundation Studies.
• On average, around 40 hours of study time in total are required to attain MSc entry knowledge. However, the actual time will vary depending on your previous experience and academic background. Do not assume that you will need to cover all the material available.
• You should assess your strengths and weaknesses in the units listed (left) before you begin. Within each unit there are a series of topics. Study the syllabuses for each topic - those that are unfamiliar will require special attention.
• The learning resources for each unit are accessed from the 'Syllabus' link on the left of the screen. Where a 'pre-test' is available, begin each unit with this. Your score will give you a rough guide to your existing knowledge. A low score means that you must focus attention on this unit.
• Some Units contain self-test exercises. You are encouraged to combine study of the notes with these, and it is advisable to begin each topic section with the self-test where available. If your score is low, focus on this topic.
• Some of the resources require Adobe Acrobat PDF reader to be installed. This can be downloaded from http://www.adobe.com/products/acrobat/readermain.html
• Your tutors are available to provide support.
